QAP Comix
Queer Ancestors Project and the SFPL Hormel Center present:
Queer Ancestors Project Comix Workshop with Trinidad Escobar,
a free in-person workshop
This workshop is for transgender, non-binary, lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, questioning, two-spirit, and intersex people, aged 18 to 26, who are interested in creating comics exploring resistance. Artists who identify as Black, Latino(a/x/e), Indigenous, Asian-Pacific Islander, or BIPOC are encouraged to apply. Artists with disabilities are also encouraged to apply. A small, cohort of 10 youth participants from diverse creative and cultural backgrounds will spend four Sunday afternoons in March 2025 learning about comics. Together we will make comics in the spirit and tradition of resistance.
Workshop will meet the first four Sundays in March 2025 (March 2, 9, 16, 23) from 2pm-5pm at SF Public Library's Hormel Center.
Public reading Thursday, April 17th, 6-7:30 pm
SF Main Public Library, 100 Larkin Street (BART/MUNI & wheelchair accessible)
There will be homework or prompts to complete BEFORE the first session. During the first week there will be more of these kinds of prompt assignments to be completed by the second session. For the final three weeks homework will include comics reading assignments and finalization of final comic(s). Completing the workshop series requires dedication and this time commitment. The workshop will culminate in a public reading on Thursday, April 17th, 6-7:30 pm at the Hormel Center. Participants will receive a $200 stipend for completion!
